China commentary on US tariffs

Beijing, China (Oct. 6, 2012) – US tariffs had the effect of reducing China’s tyre exports to the United States. Volume in 2010 was 31 million, which fell to 27.3 million in 2011.

The article at CRW Chinese version linked this attempts at trade protectionism with the imposition of consumer labels on tyres in Europe. The article described this as a ‘double whammy’ for China’s tyre makers.

The article analysed country-by country export data for the first six months of 2012: the China Rubber Industry Association statistical analysis showed that China's steel radial tyre and semi-steel radial tyre exports to the US accounted for 24.25 percent and 18.81 percent, exports to the EU accounted for 6.33 percent and 22.74 percent; the cross-ply tyre exports to the United States accounted for 42.54 percent while exports to the EU accounted for 12.34 percent.
