Sentury claims world first with new runflat

Qingdao, China – Sentury launched its all-season, all-weather runflat tire in November, claimed to be the world’s first such model.

With fully own-developed technology, the passenger car tire model will be sold globally under the Landsail brand, Sentury’s marketing director Meng Qiang told ERJ. The company is not planning to expand the application to other tire types.

The new model has better wet grip performance compared with average runflat tires and targets higher-end consumers, such as owners of BMW, Cadillac and Rolls-Royce cars originally equipped with runflat tires, said the company.

“We are still working on its pricing for the China market. Our research expenses add to the production cost,” said Meng Qiang. “It’s currently produced at our Qingdao plant but might also be made in our Thailand plant in the future depending on market conditions.”
