Support local customers achieve sustainable development

China will continue to be the engine of global market growth even if its annual growth would remain below 7% in the next few years. China has built a complete value chain over the past few decades, and the implementation of increasingly stringent environmental regulations will further accelerate the integration and promote the industry upwards.

LANXESS's innovative portfolio and solutions are used by many industries to process and purify water and other liquid media, including wastewater treatment, water recycling and desalination. Among them the most famous and important area of application is industrial process water treatment. With increased corporate willingness to reduce emissions and the acceleration of environmental investment, LANXESS will continue to uphold the principle of "Quality Works" to promote the sustainable development of Chinese enterprises with high-quality green solutions and to achieve its own rapid growth. In the first quarter of 2017, LANXESS's sales in Greater China grew by about 50% year on year, demonstrating the great potential of the Chinese market.

As a responsible corporate citizen, LANXESS has focused on the water treatment industry for nearly 80 years and has been actively working to improve the supply of clean water, continuously improve water quality and reduce drinking water costs. Meanwhile, based on its own production facilities, LANXESS in the past five years has reduced the amount of process waste water generated in production by 6%.

In terms of environmental protection, through active engagement in environmental protection, LANXESS has made outstanding achievements in wastes governance, resource conservation, cleaner production and circular economy, for which it was honored the "2017 Green Enterprise Management Award" issued by China Environmental News. Meanwhile, LANXESS's water treatment solutions were awarded the "Customer Satisfaction Brand of the Year" for stable and efficient products and service at the Hc360.Com 2016 China Environmental Water Treatment Industry Brands Event.

Ion exchange resins: small beads play a big role

After nearly 80 years of development, the Lewatit range has become a synonym for high quality ion exchange resins, adsorbents and functional polymer materials for the liquid treatment industry. Furthermore, Lewatit also plays a vital role in the production of ultra pure water, raw materials of food, chemical processing, metal purification, drinking water, etc.

Ion exchange resins can help remove contaminants from drinking water, such as nickel, nitrate, perchlorate, borate and hydrocarbons. Ion exchange resins can also remove heavy metals, such as mercury or cadmium in wastewater treatment, as well as absorb precious metals such as copper or platinum for other purposes.

In addition, Lewatit is also used in the beverage industry for the preparation of solutions as well as chemical catalysis and pharmaceutical bio-fermentation. Applications include soft drinks, yogurt, bread, beer, Gummy Bear and toothpaste.

Lewabrane membrane elements: lower energy consumption and extended cycle time

LANXESS Lewabrane membrane elements are spiral wound thin composite membranes. They filter out unwanted substances from water, such as salt, pesticides, herbicides, viruses, bacteria and particulates. The product range covers elements suitable for all major reverse osmosis applications, including desalination of seawater, salt water and low salinity water. The main areas of application include the production and purification of drinking water, as well as the treatment of process water, other industrial water and wastewater.

Lewabrane membrane elements include a multifunctional feed spacer consisting of strands of different thickness set in water pipeline. This special alternating strand design (ASD) helps to create smoother flow, thereby reducing fouling. The Lewabrane ASD product line is named after this alternating strand structure. Reverse osmosis membranes that are specially optimized for brackish water filtration applications have standard geometrical specifications (length: 40 inches; diameter: 8 inches), and are characterized by very low energy consumption and superior scaling resistance.

LANXESS's reverse osmosis membrane elements are from the production site located in Bitterfeld, produced in accordance with the most stringent German and international production and quality standards. It is expected that in the next few years, the reverse osmosis membrane elements market will continue to grow at an average annual growth rate of 10% (compound annual growth rate during 2015-2020). Considering that the actual production intensity of the Bitterfeld site is close to the upper limit, LANXESS has decided to double the capacity of the site. According to the plan, the increased production capacity will be officially put into operation in the second half of 2017.

Bayoxide iron oxide adsorbent: arsenic removal expert

The accumulation of arsenic in drinking water poses a health risk to millions of inhabitants on the five continents. The World Health Organization (WHO) sets an upper limit of arsenic concentration of 10 micrograms per liter. Bayoxide E 33 is a key product of the Bayoxide E Series dedicated to the removal of arsenic from water. Hydroxy iron oxide (chemical equation: FeO (OH)) can effectively remove arsenic and other ions from drinking water and waste water. The Bayoxide E 33 particles are used in a continuous fixed bed process to adsorb arsenic ions quickly and accurately in one or more containers. The product‘s arsenic adsorption rate is much higher than traditional adsorbents and can effectively extend the service life of filtration equipment.

LewaPlus design software, first of its kind in the industry

The LewaPlus engineering platform designed by LANXESS is the only design software in the industry able to calculate for both RO membrane and ion exchange technologies, with continuously expanding functions. In 2016, a newly developed key condensate purification module is added to the platform. In 2017, LANXESS will also bring a number of value-added upgrades for the platform users. The extremely easy-to-use LewaPlus design software with a rich set of options can be used to set up the reverse osmosis facility automatically after obtaining the water analysis data and water requirements, and then optimized or adjusted by system experts according to specific process conditions.

The LewaPlus design software is supported in 10 languages, including Chinese. The latest LewaPlus software version can be downloaded free of charge at http://lpt.lanxess.cn/cn/lew-cn-lewaplus-software/.
