On July 14, the State Intellectual Property Adminis-tration of China issued the "Decision on Awarding of the 21st China Patent Awards". Bekaert's "long and narrow steel elements containing copper-cobalt-zinc ternary or quaternary brass alloy coatings and the corresponding manufacturing methods" (ZL201280067820.1), namely TAWI® steel cord coating technology, won the China Patent Excellence Award.

TAWI® (TAWI®) steel cord coating technology is an essential technological breakthrough in the field of tire reinforcement material, breaking the traditional tire manufacturing process of more than 60 years.

Compared with the traditional binary brass coating, the advantages of the ternary alloying steel cord coating technology are reflected in three aspects:
Improved the adhesive force between steel cord and rubber in the tire in the hot and humid environment, with durability and safety, and prolonged the tire's service life.

The cobalt-free rubber formula has better heat aging resistance and lower crack growth rate, which will bring unlimited possibilities for the further development of more durable and more environmentally friendly green tires.

Reduce the amount of cobalt in tires by more than 80%, which can effectively cope with the scarcity of cobalt resources and price increases caused by the development of new energy electric vehicles and lithium batteries.
