Weihai, China (May 18, 2012) — Triangle Group Co. Ltd. has formed an alliance with a Chinese research institute to develop radial aircraft tires for commercial airliners.
The agreement with Harbin Institute of Technology in Weihai will carry out specific research work in China in support of radial tires for large-bodied commercial aircraft. The work will look at both tire design and manufacturing processes.
The agreement calls for Harbin Institute of Technology to make available its resources in composite materials, engineering mechanics, automotive, mechanical design and manufacturing, information management professions and disciplines, to the project.
Triangle operates three plants in and around Weihai making car, light truck and medium truck and OTR tires and is building a fourth plant, a $388 million radial truck tire factory.
Triangle is China’s third largest tire maker, based on 2011 sales of $2.52 billion.
Guilin Lanyu Aircraft Tire Development Co. in Guilin and GITI Tire Pte. Ltd.’s plant in Yinchuan, Ningxia, are considered China’s existing makers of radial aircraft tires.
